Have you ever heard of that saying "It takes one person to make a difference"? For me, it took one event to change the course of a lifetime!

Prior to OSCAFest 2020, I was just a budding developer looking to make an impact in society. I had written down plans of how to build a small agency business for myself. I wanted to create my own path. But fast forward to February 2020, I had just attended the OSCA festival where I learned about open source and how I could take advantage of opportunities within the space. So, I decided to apply to different open-source programs.

Fortunately, I got accepted into the LFX mentorship program where I was given the opportunity to contribute to the Thanos project. Since then, I have gone on to speak at global conferences (e.g KubeCon), co-organized maiden cloud-native event in Africa, and the most amazing part, get to work on Grafana as a full-time open source contributor.

In two years, I grew from a mediocre to a world-class engineer. What changed the game for me? Open source! This is a personal story on how open source changed my life. My hope is to inspire you to leverage open source to advance your own careers.
