There’s no doubt that good documentation is an essential feature for every project. It has a significant impact on user experience and how successful they will be with the project. Yet, according to a survey conducted by Github, the reality is that most of the documentation available is either incomplete or confusing — hence not useful to users.

To truly create documentation that is useful for our users, we (technical writers, developer advocates, documentation engineers, developers) need to understand their needs. Beyond conducting user research, digital psychology can also help.
